CreativeMornings/New York Video with Debbie Millman
Our speaker at the february 2011 CreativeMornings was wonderful Debbie Millman. Debbie’s talk is a must see for any student about to enter the world of design. Her talk is titled: The Top 10 Things I wish I Knew When I Graduated College.
This lively RSA Animate, adapted from Dan Pink’s talk at the RSA, illustrates the hidden truths behind what really motivates us at home and in the workplace.
While I’m not sure how much I’m going to need a printable template to paste things into my Moleskin, I am certain this is one clever piece of motion work. Enjoy!
I found this video over at the blog Design For Mankind. If you have trouble doing the things you know you are supposed to be doing to become a better designer, then this video is for you!
If you haven’t visited the Hillman Curtis web site and checked out his Artist Series films (or the rest of his films for that matter) it’s about time you did. I have embedded my two favorites of the series where Hillman interviews Milton Glaser and Stefan Sagmeister. Milton’s words are profound and worth hearing. Enjoy.
Series Overview
This is the first installment of Designer as Author, a new series devoted to discussing written works with the designer-authors who create them.
Designer as Author: James Victore
Self-taught designer James Victore is known for his vivid, memorable, and often controversial work. In a discussion of his first book, Victore or, Who Died and Made You Boss?, Victore will draw upon the experiences behind his best-known projects, including his inspirations, process and lessons learned.
I’m posting this, not for the illustration/animation, but for the actual content: empathy. This TED talk brings up an interesting debate. As a society, are we becoming more narcissistic or more empathetic? If either of those choices were the actual future course of human evolution, what would be the end results?
You simply need to watch this stop animation video! Everyone of us has the tools necessary to create this animation, a paint brush, a camera and iMovie. What makes this animation special was the imagination used to dream the idea, not the tools. So next time you get caught up in software, go back and watch this video!
I found this 1991 interview on YouTube where designer Miggs Burroughs interviews Paul Rand. While not the wittiest of conversations, Miggs does let Rand go off on tangents where he does make some profound comments.
